The goal of the group is to provide support to individuals on the spectrum with development and learning through psychoeducation about their diagnoses, role playing of scenarios with group members to improve social skills and practicing strategies to overcome challenges and foster independence. Treatment modalities for the group will include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Modeling, and Prompting amongst others.  Each session will have a different topic to focus on including respecting boundaries and personal space, maintaining relationships (romantic, friendships, and family), emotional regulation, behavioral challenges, increasing motivation, support with education, conversation skills, coping strategies, routines and accepting change, in addition to focusing on independence. Each group meets once a month for 1 hour. Call 732-432-4265 for more information and to register.

GROUP THERAPY ON GREIF AND THE GRIEVING PROCESS

The goal of the group is to provide support and guidance to individuals who are currently experiencing challenges directly related to loss, grief, and/or the grieving process. The first session or two will be spent focused primarily on psychoeducation, discussing the nature of grief and the grieving process itself as detailed in Kubler-Ross’ landmark study on the stages of grief. Following these initial sessions, treatment and the resultant group conversations will highlight, discuss, and encourage the following approach-oriented coping strategies in no particular order:

(1) accepting the reality of the death

(2) directly experiencing the full range of emotions that accompany the loss

(3) adapting to daily life without the deceased's physical presence

(4) integrating aspects of the deceased into one's identity

(5) maintaining a relationship with the deceased through memories

(6) finding meaning in the deceased's passing

(7) recommitting to ongoing and new relationships
